Finance and Climate Change provides a holistic, evidence-based assessment of the world’s 30 largest financial institutions, comparing top-level climate policies and targets to actual climate-related financing and policy lobbying activities. This platform allows access to the full report and methodology, as well as in-depth analysis of the individual financial institutions assessed.

The Finance and Climate Change report, released in March 2022, is a comprehensive assessment of the world's 30 largest listed financial institutions on climate change. It shows a clear disconnect between the concrete short-term targets and actions needed to address the climate emergency and the limited, long-term targets currently being set by the financial sector.

The Finance and Climate Change methodology document describes FinanceMap's methodology for assessing the performance of the world's leading financial institutions on climate change. Science-based and industry-recognized benchmarks are used to assess the financial institutions’ climate-related policies and commitments as well as their actual financing and policy lobbying activities.

The first two tabs show the portfolio assessments, scoring the fossil fuel exposure and Paris Alignment of the financial institutions' lending, equity and bond underwriting, and equity investment management portfolios. The final tab provides rankings for qualitative assessments of the financial institutions' TCFD disclosures and fossil fuel exclusion policies (Governance), engagement with sustainable finance policy (Policy Engagement), and stewardship of equity investment portfolio companies (Stewardship).

N/A (not applicable) values in the table indicate that the financial institution is not active in the assessed activity area. N/S (not scored) values indicate that FinanceMap does not have the representative portfolio data required to conduct an accurate assessment, despite the institution likely being active in the assessed activity area.
